The Shift Audit

A 10-minute mirror that shows you where you are still negotiating with the version of you that you have already outgrown.

Before you begin

There is a decision you have already made. You made it quietly, a while ago. You know the version of you that you are becoming. You have already met that version. And yet, most days, you are still negotiating with the one you have outgrown.

What deal are you still striking with the version of you that says not yet.

A quiet deal gets struck. Not yet. Not fully. Not me. You move toward the thing, then talk yourself back down to a size that feels safe. It is not patience. It is a negotiation, and you have been losing it. This is not a test. It is a mirror.

The twelve
1
I tell myself I will fully step into it once one more thing is in place.
2
I move toward what I want, then quietly talk myself back down to a safer size.
3
I collect evidence for why now is not the right time.
4
I lower the standard I set for myself the moment it gets uncomfortable.
5
I say not yet to things I already know are a yes.
6
I let an old story about who I am decide what I attempt.
7
I shrink what I want so I will not be disappointed.
8
I wait to feel ready before I act, and ready never quite arrives.
9
I renegotiate a decision I have already made, again and again.
10
I defer to the version of me that is comfortable over the one I am becoming.
11
I hold back the fuller expression of myself to keep other people comfortable.
12
I treat who I am becoming as a someday, not a now.

Answer all twelve and your result appears below.

What your number is showing you

This is not a grade. It is the size of the deal you are still striking.

The 90 second end of the negotiation

Put one hand on your chest. Both feet on the floor. One slow breath. Name the deal you keep striking with the version of you that says not yet. Then say the decision out loud, in your own voice.

I am no longer
negotiating with who I was.

Notice the part of you that immediately bargains back. The yes but, the not yet, the one more thing. That bargaining is the negotiation, live. You do not win it by negotiating harder. You end it by deciding. Say it again, an inch deeper.

The doorway

Most people will read this, feel the recognition, and strike the same deal again by morning. You do not have to be most people.

Shift is fourteen days where you stop negotiating with the old identity. Not more recognition. You decide, and you are held in the decision for fourteen days, until it is no longer a decision you are making but a person you have become.

End the negotiation
